The David Karmel Entrance Awards
These are made by a family trust in memory of David Karmel, CBE QC, a Master of the Bench from 1954 to 1982, and Treasurer in 1970. The Anthony Bessemer Clark Award This was founded by Mrs Anthony Bessemer Clark in memory of Anthony Bessemer Clark, a barrister of the Inn.
Selection criteria
these awards are intended for those deserving candidates who are in need of financial support during their CPE year. Candidates will normally be expected to have attained, or hope to attain, a 2:i degree classification. Successful candidates will be those whose aptitudes and enthusiasm give promise of a successful career at the Bar.
Amount of the awards
Up to six Karmel awards, each worth £7,500 and one Anthony Bessemer Clark Award, worth £5,000, will be made by the Trust. Additional awards of amounts determined by the Scholarships Committee will be made by the Inn to those considered worthy of support. At the discretion of the interviewing panel, a larger number of small awards may be given
Application deadline
Applications for these awards should be made by the 30th April immediately preceding the start of the candidate's CPE course.
Interviews Short-listed candidates will be interviewed in the Summer or early Autumn.
Payment of awards
Successful candidates must join the Inn before payment can be made. |
