Access A lift is available for wheelchair users and free parking can be arranged as necessary. If you have any special requirements please telephone the Library in advance to discuss how we may assist you.

We also have two height-adjustable desks that will allow members who are wheelchair users or those with back problems to adjust their working position simply and easily.

New Assistive Technology

Two new software packages designed to help people with visual impairments are now available on a dedicated computer that has a large low resolution screen and large print keyboard.

Supernova is a combined screen reader and full screen magnifier designed for all visually impaired users, from low vision to blind, allowing them the freedom to access Windows in the way that suits them best. Benefits include a’ talk as you type’ facility and access to complex websites such as LexisLibrary & Westlaw.

Dolphin Guide is ideal for anyone who has never been taught to use a computer and who may have deteriorating sight, be partially sighted or completely blind. A simple menu system enables you to browse web pages and scan and listen to documents.

There is also a specialised viewer which allows you to magnify reading material, increase the contrast and alter colours to best suit your vision needs.

Staff are happy to help anyone who would like to use the new technologies or to obtain and copy items for users as necessary.
