Qualifying Sessions
Qualifying Sessions at the Inn:
Moot Night
Register: 5:40pm
There are multi-moots, senior moots and moot competitions throughout the year. Mooting simulates advocacy “on your feet”. Mooting is the ideal opportunity for students to practise advocacy and enhance their credentials for seeking pupillage. In order to gain a QS you must have your QS ticket stamped when registering and participate in the reception afterwards. Court suits and gowns required.
Mixed Messes
Register: 6.20pm
This evening begins with a drinks reception where you can meet and later dine in groups of four (a mess) with barrister and judicial members of the Inn. Dinner is followed by a talk given by a guest of the Treasurer. Court suits and gowns required.
Grand Night
Register: Hall 6.45pm
Grand Night is an uncommon evening, offered only once every academic year. Come dine and pass the “loving cup” with some very prestigious guests of the Inn. Court suits and gowns required.
Debate / Guest Night
Register: 5.45pm (STUDENTS only - Debate - compulsory for QS)
Register: 6.45pm (ALL – students, members of Hall & guests - Guest Night)
A Senior Debate (or on the rare occasion, a moot or lecture) precedes Guest Night. Senior debates will vary in form, e.g. a balloon debate, a parliamentary debate featuring Gray’s students alone or a debate between Gray’s and other external teams. Following the debate students attend Guest Night, a popular favourite amongst members of Hall. Students wishing to gain a QS must attend the debate and Guest Night. Those who do not wish to receive a QS or guests of students should attend at 6.45pm. Court suits and gowns required.
Concert Night
Register: 5.45pm (STUDENTS only – Lecture - compulsory for QS)
Register: 6.20pm (ALL – students, members of Hall & guests – Concert Night)
A lecture will take place followed by drinks, dinner and a fabulous concert in Hall. In order to gain a QS you must attend the entire evening from 5:45, including the lecture. Those who do not wish to receive a QS or guests of students should attend at 6.20pm. Court suits and gowns required.
