Temporary Membership & Call

A qualified lawyer wishing to practise on a on a temporary basis in England and Wales (for the purpose of conducting a particular case or particular cases) must first contact the Bar Standards Board.

Once a Temporary Qualification Certificate has been issued by the BSB, papers for temporary admission and call can be submitted to the Inn.  The application will then go before the Treasurer of the Inn to be authorised.

Please be aware that admission papers may take up to one month to be processed. 

When submitting admission papers; please provide the following:
1.  Four Inns of Court Form

2.  Declaration for Temporary Admission and Call of a Qualified Foreign Lawyer form

3. Tempory Qualification Certificate from the BSB
4. Admission fee of £100 (by cheque made payable to Gray’s Inn)
5. One passport photo
6.  Equal Opportunites Form
